Physical Activity & Movement
Every student deserves the opportunity to move, play, and build healthy habits that last a lifetime. Research continues to show that physical activity supports not only physical health, but also emotional regulation, academic performance, focus, and overall well-being. I believe we should prioritize quality physical education for our youngest learners, protect recess as an essential part of the school day, and ensure students have opportunities to be active from kindergarten through graduation. Investing in movement is an investment in student success.
Student Conduct & Safe Learning Environments
Students and educators deserve classrooms where learning can thrive. Creating safe, respectful school environments requires clear expectations, consistent accountability, and policies that are regularly evaluated to ensure they are effective and equitable. Throughout my career, I have worked to strengthen conduct systems by listening to stakeholders, reviewing existing practices, and implementing solutions that promote both accountability and student development. As a trustee, I will continue to approach these challenges with transparency, collaboration, and a commitment to supporting students, teachers, and families.
Extracurricular Opportunities & Student Belonging
Learning extends far beyond the classroom. Whether through athletics, music, robotics, student government, arts, career and technical programs, or clubs, extracurricular involvement helps students build confidence, develop leadership skills, and find a sense of belonging. Every student should have meaningful opportunities to discover their interests and connect with their school community. I will advocate for accessible, inclusive programs that help students build relationships, strengthen social connections, and prepare for success both in school and beyond.
Addressing Chronic Absenteeism
Students are more likely to come to school when they feel safe, connected, and excited to be there. By strengthening physical activity and movement, fostering positive school conduct, and expanding meaningful extracurricular opportunities, we can create learning environments where students feel a true sense of belonging. Addressing chronic absenteeism requires more than one solution; it requires collaboration among schools, families, educators, and community partners. I am committed to supporting practical, student-centered strategies that help every child show up, engage, and succeed.
Here’s how I will work to make meaningful progress on these goals, and for our students, teachers, and district as a whole:
Collaboration
Family and community partnerships are a critical piece of our schools now, and of improving them further. Whether it’s for internships or to address chronic absenteeism, working with local businesses and nonprofits is integral to the district’s success. We should also enhance two-way communication and ensure families feel heard, informed, and respected in district decision-making.
Transparency
Being upfront and straightforward about decisions helps build trust, as does collaboration (above). Engaging with the community through district committees and other outreach to listen and respond shows and improves transparency as well.
Solutions-Focused
I’m always going to be focused on what’s best for students and schools. Sometimes we get wrapped up in all kinds of discussions that aren’t about that, and we need to refocus on what’s needed for thriving classrooms. I understand how systems work, and how to improve them responsibly.
